The Golden Globes are on this Sunday. I just bought my fake champagne! I will be watching them at Mom's because Lenny finally called and canceled our cable (we both decided it was a good idea and he has been threatening it for a while). Plus, my parents have a bigger, fancier TV. I debated throwing together a last minute party seeing as how I am NOT planning an Oscar party this year, but nothing has come together as of yet.
I have also only managed to see a few of the nominated movies: Invictus, Young Victoria, Sherlock Holmes, Julie & Julia, The Proposal (Sandra Bullock is nominated for best female lead - comedy and is also nominated for best female lead - drama for The Blind Side, which I have not seen). Julie & Julia was, of course, my favorite, but Young Victoria was good too. I saw Sherlock Holmes Christmas Day and then Invictus the day after. Those two movies could not have been more different and I was not crazy about either one.
I finally got Lenny to watch Julie & Julie with me (I bought the DVD) and his favorite part was when Julie's husband said, "And don't put this on your blog!" They have been showing Julia Child marathons on our Boston PBS station on Saturday afternoons. It is riveting television. She sometimes seems to lose her train of thought, but then she always makes her way back around, and she seems to just throw scraps and whatever else she is done with on the floor, but perhaps she has a "garbage bowl" down there. One episode she was doing wine pairing and she informed us that it even thought it looked like she was pouring the wine out on the floor, she did have a bucket down there. I defy you to not repeat "Bon Apetit!" at the end. I believe it was New Year's weekend we watched a few episodes and ate pizza, just like Julie and her husband in the movie!
What movies have you seen this "season" and what did you think of them?

We saw Sherlock Holmes on XMas day and really liked it. You already know that I saw (after reading the book) Julie and Julia. I'm not so wild about that now because evidently Julie was cheating on her husband the whole time she was writing her blog. At least that's what her latest book is about. I watched the proposal (along with five other movies) on the airplane home from Venice in October.
ReplyDeleteI got sucked in to the Julia Child PBS reruns, too. I learned how to make a pretty mean omelet after watching one episode.
I already liked the Nora Ephron/Amy Adams version of Julie better anyway. Much cuter and nicer.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely do feel like you are learning something from Julia Child and that you can do it too! Have I? Well, not really... yet...
Oh no, that Julia news is very sad. I really liked that movie, he seemed like such a sweet hubby...what is wrong with people?
