Ok, so I'm supposed to be moving the last of the stuff out of our old apartment at my parents' house as it looks like someone is moving in, so of course, I'm posting this instead. During the initial phase of our move I found this cilantro kit I had bought over a year ago and never planted; well we finally did it. And nothing happened for a few weeks. We watered it every once and a while and then one day - things are growing! I don't know if it's cilantro or weeds but it's something. Lenny made his
Rosa Mexicano guacamole recipe last night with fresh cilantro from the supermarket, so I can't wait to see if we can actually grow our own.

Also in the pic is one of the perks at working at a
handblown glass shop. Every year we get to pick an item to keep. The first year I chose "Paco", a very limited edition (I think Eamon made two) snowman with a sombrero. Doesn't he look so cute next to the terra cotta pot? Then this year I chose the vase made by Eric, a master glassblower in semi-retirement. It is a beautiful piece and I felt kind of funny putting it on the kitchen window ledge, but it looks so nice there and this way I get to look at it a lot and it matches our counter top quite nicely too.
I think the two look adorable next to each other. "Simple pleasures" indeed! Hope you get some good cilantro. It's an ongoing joke with Jim & me - I'll plant herbs and the birds eat the seeds or the sun burns them or the rain drowns them, etc. So now whenever he sees me planting something he asks, "what are you going to kill this year?" :O
ReplyDeletelove paco. i want to see a better picture of the vase. it looks awesome!
ReplyDeletecan lenny make that guacamole and ship it to us? we love guacamole. it's making me hungry just reading about it!

leggy
Just make sure your herbs are getting plenty of sun and try to water it weekly. Don't drown it, just moisten the soil.
ReplyDeleteI, too, would like to see a closer pic of the vase.
Also, if you guys like beef, check out my very first blog. It has a recipe for Margarita London Broil...which calls for cilantro. Sadly, not tequila.
