Tomorrow is the televised portion of the 2009 Scripps National Spelling Bee. I can't wait. It's an all day event starting at 10AM on ESPN (of all networks) and then the finals start at 8 PM on ABC. It really is exciting television. A few years ago this kid passed out, stood up, and then spelled the word! Correctly! (see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XevYP0yAkI8&NR=1) I believe the first time I watched it was in 2003 when I just happened to be on vacation in St. Thomas. St. Thomas at the end of May midday is very HOT, so I watched the Spelling Bee, and I was hooked. I know I haven't watched it every year since then (last year I forgot about it altogether! but found this funny video from last year's bee: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjzrNWPul9E&feature=related), but tomorrow I am definitely watching it. I thought I had the whole day off, which now may not be true, and we have our meeting tomorrow night, but that's what Tivo is for.
I can see myself getting sucked in to watching a spelling bee. I've seen one once before, some of the words they get right are unbelievable!
