I am trying to zero in on my menu for my Oscar party. I am currently deciding between two cocktails, one I found on epicurious.com and is pictured here. Isn't it a pretty gold color? They actually call this drink "The Gold Rush." The recipe (for two drinks) is as follows:1/2 cup vodka
1/4 cup thawed frozen apple juice concentrate
4 teaspoons Calvados
4 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
Combine vodka, apple juice concentrate, Calvados, and lemon juice in cocktail shaker; add ice. Cover and shake well. Strain into Martini glasses and serve.
Of course I don't have any Calvados, or any apple brandy for that matter, but I tried out a version of this at my sister's house (with pear brandy) and it was yummy.
My other option is what I made for my first RI Oscar Party, equal parts vodka and peach schnapps (or maybe 2 to 1?), shake in a cocktail shaker with ice, strain into martini glass, and top with champagne. Also very yummy. I would have to get peach schnapps and cheap champagne for this one. Any thoughts?

being someone who is allergic to vodka, it's a little hard for me to decide. but i'd say go with the first one ... i don't know, it's pretty; gold; and sounds YUMMY!!!

I'm not a huge van of vodka; I usually opt for gin instead. I think I've had something similar to the cocktail you made at your first RI Oscar Party, but made with gin. And it is yummy. That would be my vote, I guess.
ReplyDeleteClearly I'm not a "huge VAN of vodka." I meant FAN of vodka. Oops!
ReplyDeleteI do have both gin and vodka. I'm rather possessive of my gin for my gin and tonics in the summer and my martinis in the winter.
